Hydrocolloid dressing has an active surface coated with cross-linked adhesive mass with dispersion of gelatin, pectin and carboxy-methylcellulose together with other polymers and adhesives forming a flexible wafer.

It contains gel-forming agents in an adhesive compound laminated onto a flexible, waterproof outer layer. Some of these formulations also come with alginate to enhance the water-absorption capabilities.
